Sunderland firm leading fight against COVID-19
A Sunderland business that manufactures electronics assemblies used in vital hospital equipment is stepping up its efforts to support the global fight against Coronavirus.
Connor Solutions, based in Houghton, has seen a significant increase in orders from its global medical customers due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and is mobilising its team to ensure it is able to keep up with demand. The business has over two decades experience in medical electronics manufacturing working with several of the world’s market leaders in the manufacture of life critical equipment. As a result it is in a unique position to respond to the current crisis and is participating in a number of the consortiums mobilised both here in the UK and in the US.
Dermot Guerin, CEO at Connor Solutions, based at Rainton Bridge, said: “This is an unprecedented situation and we feel privileged to play a part in the global response to ramp up production of life critical ventilators, respirators, and infusion pumps to assist our NHS frontline staff, and healthcare professionals worldwide, in their amazing response to this pandemic. We are all humbled by their courage and dedication. Our team has been absolutely incredible and they’re working tirelessly to ensure we meet the ramp plans for these products that are so essential to patients in intensive care units and critical in the fight against Covid-19.”
The 21-year old business, which has grown to become a leading Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider, has put in place stringent social distancing and hygiene procedures to enable its 200 strong team to carry on at work. This massive effort and investment has allowed the company to continue to operate at close to full capacity and respond effectively to this huge ramp in global demand.
Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “We have some incredible businesses in Sunderland, and many of these are coming to the fore during these challenging times.
“Connor Solutions is undertaking a vital role in supporting hospitals around the world, helping to meet the huge increase in demand and it’s great to see the contribution they’re able to make.”
