Major brands to move in to Washington Retail Park
Two major brands will open outlets at Washington Retail Park as the wider £5m revamp of the Sunderland Highway site begins.
Frozen food specialist Iceland has chosen the location for a new 'Food Warehouse' store, with work on site having commenced last month (August).
The 12,500 sq ft unit will house a new concept for the retailer offering a wider range of groceries and household products, bringing up to 30 new jobs to the area upon completion.
Bakery chain Greggs will also open an outlet after agreeing a deal with park owner Peel Retail Parks for a 1,400 sqft unit. Both new stores follow the announcement of a new Lidl supermarket, due to open in summer 2019.
Roger Wheeldon, director of development at Peel Land and Property, said: "The addition of Food Warehouse and Greggs form the second phase of our wider investment in Washington Retail Park, alongside the new Lidl and existing occupiers, gives us a really strong line up.
"Washington Retail Park has convenient highway connections and ample parking which is attractive to retailers, allowing us to evolve the site and create an excellent offering for local people to utilise."
Peel Retail Parks has appointed Havercroft as the main contractor for the redevelopment and refurbishment of the units.
