Local businesses can benefit from city's investment in housing
Local businesses are being invited to find out more about how they can benefit from Sunderland City's Council's investment in new affordable homes at an event in the city next month.
The Let's Talk Council Housing event at the Stadium of Light on Thursday 13 February is aimed at small builders, local contractors and suppliers.
Councillor Rebecca Atkinson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: "This event is all about setting out our plans for social housing and getting local companies on board to help us deliver these.
The council is planning to support the delivery of new affordable homes, making better use of existing housing and provide bungalows for older people and new accommodation to support vulnerable groups in the city. We want local businesses to be part of this.
"One of the key aims of the City Plan which sets out the council's plans for transforming Sunderland into a dynamic, healthy and vibrant city over the next decade is around supporting local businesses so we're looking to link our investment in housing back to local businesses wherever possible.
"I'd encourage local contractors, SMEs, builders and suppliers to sign up for the event and come along and find out more about how they can be involved."
The event will be held at the Stadium of Light between 8.45 am and 12 noon on Thursday 13 February. The event will provide an update on:
- The council's approach to the delivery of new housing services over the next five years
- How local contractors, SMEs, builders and suppliers can help the council meet its delivery aims
- How local businesses can play a role and secure new work opportunities
